Many athletes are looking for tips on how to jump higher in basketball. The main reason is that basketball players want to be able to dunk, go up higher for rebounds and to jump higher to get blocked shots. Being able to jump higher in basketball is a huge advantage and will greatly improve your performance on the court.

Below is a set of exercises to jump higher you can start doing today to help increase your vertical for basketball. Before doing any exercises or training program always make sure to warm up your muscles with a light jog and to also do some stretching. This will not only increase your results but also prevent the likelihood of injury.

Jump Higher In Basketball Exercises

The first exercise you will want to do is squats. Squats are one of the best overall exercises you can do as they work many muscles in your legs and also work your back. Squats should be done with a weight belt on and make sure you bring the weight down slowly and control it. You want to go down until your knees are at a 90 degree angle with your knees over your toes. Then push the weight back up to a standing position and repeat.

The second vertical jump exercise you will want to do to jump higher in basketball is lunges. Grab a dumbbell in each hand and step forward with your right leg. Lower your body down until you left knee is almost to the ground and then sh yourself back up to a standing position with your right leg. Then repeat with the opposite leg switch back and forth from one leg to the other. You can also do one leg at a time, the choice is up to you.

The third jump higher exercise is box jumps. Grab a box or cone that is about 12 inches high. Stand with your feet together on one side of the box and jump with both feet to the opposite side. As soon as you land immediately jump back to the side you started from and continue on jumping from one side to the other. The key here is to spending as little time as possible on the ground. You want to be quickly jumping from one side to the other.

The last how to jump higher in basketball exercise is rim jump. Stand underneath a basketball rim and jump off both feet trying to touch as high on the rim as possible. As soon as you land back on the ground jump up again trying to touch an even higher spot. Continue on for 8-10 jumps.

These 4 vertical jump exercises will put you on the right path to increasing your vertical and learning how to jump higher in basketball.

Finding workouts to jump higher that are effective that be difficult. With so many jump higher workout programs available picking the right one can be hard to do. Below you will find some guidelines that any good vertical jump workout should follow. If your training program does not follow these guidelines than you might want to reconsider.

Jump Higher Workout

The #1 guideline that all workouts to jump higher should contain is exercises from all the different vertical jump training methods. If you are limiting yourself to just one type of training than you are severely limiting your results. For example, you may just be focusing on weight lifting. While weight lifting will help to increase your vertical and jump higher, it will only help to a certain level. Instead you should also be doing plyometric exercises and jumping exercises. By adding these into your jump higher workout you will be able to keep your results from hitting a wall and continue to add inches to your vertical jump.

Secondly, you also want to look at the amount of reps you are doing. Many athletes will do a high amount of reps of each exercise and this is actually hurting their results. When you do high reps you end up training your muscle endurance. This is a big mistake because you want to be focusing on muscle quickness and explosiveness. To be able to do this you should be using lower reps with more weight. You want to be quick and fast, not big and slow. Training to be cut with big muscles may be great for getting attention from the ladies but it will not help you jump higher!

Lastly, any workouts to jump higher that you do should be focused on increasing your vertical and nothing else. The workout should be targeting all muscles involved in jumping and not just the common ones. You would be surprised at how many smaller muscles play a role in jumping. If you are leaving these muscles out of your jump higher workout than you are limiting your results. If you want to get those extra inches and squeeze every gain out of your training then you need to focus your vertical jump workout on all the necessary muscles.

I urge you to look at your current workout and determine if it adheres to all these principals. Chances are it doesn’t and that is why your results are lacking.

If you would like to skip all the guess work and just use a proven and incredibly effective workout to jump higher than my #1 recommendation is the Vertical Explosion Training Program. It is by far one of the best jump higher workout programs that I have seen. It goes into great detail to incorporate all the guidelines I talked about above into the program so you get results that are substantial. If your workouts to jump higher are not getting you the results you want…than you need this program.

Athletes are always on the lookout for effective exercises to jump higher. But with so many possible jump higher exercises you can do it can be hard to determine which ones to do. Well, lucky for you we are going to give you the top exercises that you should be doing in order to jump higher.

Jump Higher Exercises

Squats – when doing squats you want to be focusing on doing lower reps with more weight. You also want to always be sure you can barely finish your last rep and if the last rep is easy to finish then it is time to add more weight. Make sure you protect your back when doing squats or even use a leg press machine to ease the strain on your back.

Calf Raises – calf raises are an excellent exercises to jump higher since you calf muscles are a big factor in jumping. Try doing one leg calf raises to really isolate the muscle and get more results.

Lunges – this is another great jump higher exercise and again should be done so that you can barely finish the last rep. These can be done with dumbells doing one leg at a time.
